Gulmarg is a popular ski resort. It’s located around 50 kilometres west of Srinagar at a height of 2600 metres. Assuming that traffic and snow conditions permit, the trip from Srinagar to Gulmarg will take around an hour. The only way to get there in the winter is with a four-wheel drive vehicle. Other ski resorts in Europe, the USA, Canada and New Zealand are nothing like this. It’s filled with Kashmiri tradition.
They are built in a style that can only be seen in Kashmir. The majority of them are made of pine wood and have colourful roofs on top of it all. To provide a comfortable stay, all accommodations are equipped with central heating. All hotels have a “Bhukari” in the living room, which is a traditional wood-fired oven. It creates a comfortable and inviting atmosphere in the space. Enjoy the markets in Gulmarg’s “downtown”, go ice skating, or bump into one of the partygoers after a delicious and traditional supper

If you’re used to contemporary, westernised resorts, this is a world apart from that! A greater proportion of backcountry terrain is uncontrolled in Gulmarg, allowing for more adventure and untracked powder!
All of Gulmarg Ski Resort’s off-piste (out-of-bounds) skiing possibilities are highlighted on the resort’s Freeride Trail Map. There is no ski patrol in this region, therefore you are skiing at your own risk. Powder fields and gladed terrain abound in this area, which has 17 bowls and infinite powder fields.
