A shuttle service to and from Srinagar airport (about 1 – 1.5-hour drive depending on snow conditions) is included in our ski packages. A lack of traffic regulations and signage as well as bad road conditions prevent us from recommending self-driving. Airport agents may try to sell you a taxi or other transportation service, so proceed with caution. Please contact us if you have any specific requirements and/or a different arrival or departure airport before reserving anything on your own.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
Health insurance is a must for anybody travelling overseas – even if you’re strong and healthy. It’s inevitable that accidents will occur, and if you’re uninsured, the costs may add up quickly. Delhi and Mumbai Airports
Located in Delhi, India’s National Capital Region, Indira Gandhi International Airport is Delhi’s principal international airport. It’s the busiest airport in India and a transportation centre for India and South Asia.
To reach the New Delhi train station, the Delhi Airport Metro Express takes around 20 minutes. DTC buses and metered taxis are other options for getting to the city centre.
Mumbai’s major international airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (previously Sahar International Airport) (formerly Bombay). In honour of the 17th-century emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Bhosle, the airport bears his name. In India and South Asia, it is the busiest and most significant airport hub. Over half of the aviation traffic in South Asia passes through these two airports.
To travel to Mumbai (Colaba), take a pre-paid cab from the international arrivals section of the airport. When travelling early in the morning or late in the evening, traffic is lower, and it should take around 1 12 to 2 hours to reach the city centre.
Getting to Kashmir
In Delhi, India, you’ve begun your Himalayan powder holiday. Now what? To complete your adventure, you must now travel to Kashmir. From Delhi to Srinagar in Kashmir, our website will provide you with all the necessary aviation and road travel information.
By Air
The information you need to book flights from Delhi, India to Srinagar, Kashmir can be found right here!
Walkie-talkies, transceivers, and all sorts of weird technology will be in your luggage for sure. Checked luggage is preferable over carry-on bags when it comes to certain things. Because the baggage taxes are so low, you don’t need to worry about taking additional bags. As luggage and security checks might take some time, we recommend arriving at the Delhi airport around three hours before departure time. Get a seat on the right side of the plane so you can see the Himalayas.
From International Airport Terminal to Domestic Airport Terminal
Shuttle service is available from the International Airport Terminal to the Domestic Airport Terminal at no charge at all. As soon as you get to Tower 18, you’ll be on your way to the International Air Terminal. You will need to obtain a coupon at the shuttle services counter, which is located only a few towers down from Tower 18 and is placed at a little desk. Near the bus and taxi boarding area, you can view the towers after exiting the airport building. The coupon must be accompanied by a copy of the tickets for the arrival and departure dates.
Proceed to Tower 18 once you’ve received your coupon. Buses leave Tower 18 every 20 minutes to take you to the Domestic Air Terminal, which is about a 10-minute ride. You can also choose to pay for the shuttle service, which is quite inexpensive.
By Land
As an alternative to flying, travelling by land offers a more picturesque choice. The finest routes from Delhi to Srinagar in Kashmir may be found with our first-hand knowledge of the numerous land alternatives available.
Traveling by Land to Kashmir
Have some additional time or want to save money? This is a viable alternative. The distance between Delhi and Srinagar is roughly 900 kilometres, but you’ll get to see some spectacular scenery along the route. Snow may make driving conditions hazardous, despite how lovely the road may look.
How We Like to Do It
Our only land journey has been to Gulmarg Ski Resort in Gulmarg and then back to Delhi four times
This journey is divided into two sections:
Between Gulmarg to Jammu, take a taxi
Jammu-Delhi Train Service
Take a private cab from Gulmarg to Jammu in the direction of Srinagar. There is a railway station in Jammu that is the closest to Srinagar (a distance of 290 kilometres). Jammu and Srinagar will be connected by the Kashmir Railway, which is now under development. As a result of the route’s difficult terrain and numerous obstacles, its completion has been postponed until at least 2017.
Please note! If your final destination is Srinagar, private taxi services are available to take you from Jammu to Srinagar at a reasonable cost.
Gulmarg to Jammu is 355 kilometres away, and a private cab ride might take anything from 7 to 14 hours. The earlier you leave, the more likely you are to be in Delhi before the final train departs. One of the mountain crossings goes via a large tunnel on the beautiful road the cab drives on. Your Ski India trip will be enhanced by the beauty along this road.
Plan ahead and reserve your rail tickets. Use www.makemytrip.com or www.cleartrip.com to plan your trip. No A/C sleeper class is good for winter travel because you would be travelling in a colder atmosphere (rather than India’s usual scorching heat) You may upgrade to a three-tiered air conditioner for more comfort.
As at 23:45, the final train from Jammu to Delhi leaves the station. We recommend using the 21:15 or 21:45 train to get to your destination. If you depart early enough from Gulmarg, you may be able to catch the 20:35 train.
You can find a hostel outside the train station on your left while facing the station if you miss the last train to Delhi (we missed our train once and stayed at the hostel). Whichever train you choose, you will arrive in Delhi either early morning or late afternoon, depending on the train you pick. New Delhi is home to certain trains, whereas Old Delhi is the destination of others.
Bus
Gulmarg to Srinagar bus terminal may be reached via cab. According to road conditions, the drive to Srinagar should take about 2-3 hours. Travel to Jammu from Srinagar’s bus terminal, which isn’t the best. From Jammu, take a bus to Delhi. Trains are preferable than buses in India…
From Srinagar Airport to Gulmarg.
There are 52 kilometres between Gulmarg Village and Srinagar Airport. Travel time from Delhi to Gulmarg might range from an hour and a half to over three hours. As you leave Srinagar, you’ll have to drive 12 kilometres up a mountain road until you reach Gulmarg Ski Resort, where you’ll begin your Ski Himalaya trip.
Tangmarg (the final town before Gulmarg) is a sequence of switchbacks that take you from 1800 metres to 2660 metres above sea level. Winter driving conditions may be challenging. This may be amusing as well as annoying when buses become stopped and visitors from India or Kashmir try to drive up the mountain route with just summer tyres.
From the Airport to Gulmarg with Kashmir Ski Tours
Srinagar Airport to Gulmarg cab shuttle service is available. Every day in the winter, tyre chains are required to keep the tyres from spinning. Our cabs are all equipped with chains. As soon as you depart the airport, we will be waiting for you. Getting your gear on the roof and in our vehicle will take around 5 minutes before you embark on your adventurous journey into the Himalayan Mountains of Kashmir.
Getting to Gulmarg by train is the quickest and most convenient method to do it. When you arrive in paradise, we’ll be there to meet you with your flight number and arrival time.
The Cheaper Way
At the airport, you might try to get a cab by yourself for less money. However, the procedure might be hectic if you choose to use prepaid cabs. As most taxis from Srinagar don’t have chains to climb the icy, steep mountain route, you’ll probably have to change cabs at Tangmarg to get to your final destination.
Booking a cab in advance is recommended for a smooth arrival. If you need to, you may stop in Srinagar.
The Cheapest Way
To go to Gulmarg at a reasonable price, you should use a shared cab. It’s really inexpensive, but be prepared for a lengthy trip. When someone wants to get in or out of the cab, the shared taxi stops. They try to get as many people as possible to run with them. In a single cab, they could cram up to 10 persons including the driver…
Last Minute Tips Before You Reach Gulmarg
Srinagar is a good place to stop for a several reasons:
- In Gulmarg, it might be difficult to make purchases with large banknotes (1000 INR). Buying a ski pass in a hurry because there’s a lot of powder on the mountain may be irritating if you’re told there’s no change by the ticket vendor. As a Muslim region, the booze store in Gulmarg was shut down last year because it was selling to underage youngsters… It’s thus a good idea to stop in Srinagar and stock up on booze if you want to relax in your room or on your balcony after a long day of deep powder riding. Prepare yourself for a culture shock.
- For charging your electrical gadgets, we recommend purchasing a multi-pronged outlet.
